I remembered that a while before I'd read online that Oil of Oregano essential oil is anti-bacterial & anti-viral. Well just recently we had picked up a bottle of it for just in case. (Our experimenting with essential oils was fairly new at this point). We also had a new package of empty gel capsules from the health food store.
I drug myself to the computer & searched for dosing instructions. There were no specifics, but on average I was finding people were using 3-5 drops anywhere from 3-10 times / day. So I started downing the stuff. I took 5 drops every 3 hours the first & second day. By the end of the first day my fever was gone. By the end of the 2nd day, the white spots were getting smaller & the pain had subsided SUBSTANTIALLY. By the 3rd day, I cut back to 3 drops every 3-4 hours, & the spots were GONE! My family was in absolute awe... I continued to take a few doses for a couple more days & tapered off as time went on.
The ONLY thing I noticed was that my energy was super drained. I was so tired I could hardly stand myself after the 2nd day. Later on, I read that Oil of Oregano, if taken continuously or in large doses can significantly lower your iron levels. Well duh... I started taking extra iron & that cleared right up. (Foods high in iron could be eaten in place of supplements, which is a better idea anyway & something I'll probably do next time if it happens again...) And taking extra vitamin C helps to absorb the iron into your body better also! So don't forget to eat some citrus fruits too! :)
Some iron rich foods are:
- Egg yolks
- Dark, leafy greens (spinach, collards)
- Dried fruits (or fresh!)
- Mollusks (oysters, clams, scallops)
- Turkey or chicken giblets
- Beans & lentils
- Liver (ok... blegh! - I'd choose the veges!)
Make sure if you take it in a capsule to eat a few bites of bread or something to soak it up before & after swallowing. This will help it 'stay down' & not burn your throat after the gel cap dissolves. The burning feels like heart burn & will go away after a few minutes, if you do happen to feel it.
Sucking on Pink Himalayan Salt does help to neutralize the sting in case of accidental contact with your mouth. My mom figured that one out! :)
Also - For older kids that can swallow pills, I would not use more than about 3 drops in a gel cap for them. My teenage daughter uses 3-5 drops.
Now for "How I Cured My Son's Strep Throat" - & kept the rest of the family from getting it.
On a separate occasion, the same thing happened to my 8 year old son. During both instances we kept "Thieves" essential oil (also known as "Germ-Fighter" by Plant Therapy & "On Guard" by doTerra) rubbed into everyone's feet. We also had it running in the diffuser every day. I also added a drop of Oil of Oregano to the Thieves on occasion. Or if anyone started feeling ill or getting a scratchy throat, they either took an OOO (oil of oregano) capsule or rubbed xtra on their feet.
James (my 8 year old) - had a horrible fever. It got up to over 104. He was shaking just like I did, felt like he had the flu, & was either delirious or lethargic. We put him in a cool bath & rubbed diluted peppermint oil & lemon oil on his head, back, & feet to get the fever down. We also used cool wash cloths for when he was laying on the couch resting. He can't swallow pills, so I kept OOO & Thieves on his feet several times a day. I gave him 1-2 squirts of Colloidal Silver twice a day, & I also gave him an organic herbal Echinacea tincture made by Oregon's Wild Harvest. When he coughed, I made him some natural lemonade with fresh squeezed lemon, water, & RAW honey & also sprayed an Echinacea throat spray directly onto the white spots in the back of his throat..
By later that evening his fever was gone, & it never came back. Less than 24 hours after the white spots started showing up everywhere, he was fine! The next day the spots were completely gone.
With any luck, I have the strep cure down pat & "hopefully" won't have to take any of us in for antibiotics for that illness ever again! :) 2 of my kids have had their tonsils out. I'm thinking my other kids won't EVEN have to go there now that I've learned how to take care of this myself. Talk about awesome!
