Or um... Genetically MUTATED Organisms.
Ok, let's just call it what it really is... FRANKENFOOD.
What is GMO? Who is Monsanto? Round Up is dangerous? Agent Orange was what?
Monsanto Corporation was founded in 1901 by John Francis Queeny who's father in law was Emmanuel Mendes de Monsanto. The company's first product was the artificial sweetener saccharin.
More than 80% of "food" from the super market is now GMO, & approximately 90% of corn, soy, cotton, & canola are GMO. (Stay away from Canola Oil - It's bad stuff!) GMO crops are commonly referred to as "Round Up Ready Crops". More & more GMO seeds/crops (such as rice, potatoes, tomatoes, sugar beets, papaya & others) are being produced all the time. The goal in mind is that one company own all seeds & seed production. There's just something very unsettling (not to mention wrong!) about that.
As of 2011, there were 30 countries that had banned the use & production of GMO foods & now at least 50 countries require the labeling of GMO foods. Yet here in the US, they're FDA 100% backed & approved for human consumption & no labeling requirements are currently in place.
GMO's explode the brains & lacerate the guts of the insects that feed on them. They cause cancer & other major health problems in rats. So... the question remains - What are they doing to us?
If you're new to learning about GMO/Monsanto - There are several films/documentaries on the subject.

An extremely informative documentary is available from the Institute for Responsible Technology - and can be watched for free - HERE. Get past the first 5 fairly boring minutes, & you'll learn A LOT. This is a WOW video!
One of the best books on GMO is called "Seeds of Deception" & can be found on Amazon, retailers, & possibly your local library.
Also, please visit Steffanie England's extensive website - www.celiacshack.com & type "GMO" into the search field. Here's a small excerpt from one of her entries:
In a 2005 article, Jeffrey Smith describes the findings from animal studies, in which rats developed a number of significant reactions when fed Bt corn, including:
Increased basophils, which is a typical indication of allergies
Increased lymphocytes and white blood cells, which is an indication of a response to infections, toxins and various diseases including...
Blood pressure problems
Increased blood sugar levels
Liver and kidney lesions, and other changes
In Germany and the Philippines, GM corn has also been blamed for the deaths of buffaloes, cows, horses, and poultry.
Damaging Research Remains Ignored
One researcher deserving of particular mention here is Dr. Arpad Pusztai, a biologist with more than 300 articles and 12 books to his credit and considered the world's top expert in his field.
In the early 1990's, he worked on a $3 million grant from the U.K. government, with a mission to design the system for safety testing of GMOs. But when he accidentally discovered that genetically modified (GM) foods are inherently unsafe, he quickly became the industry's bad-boy poster child, setting an example for other scientists thinking about blowing the whistle.
The results of Pusztai's work were supposed to become the required testing protocols for all of Europe. But when he fed supposedly harmless GM potatoes to rats, he made a shocking discovery.
Within just 10 days, the animals developed:
-- Potentially pre-cancerous cell growth
-- Smaller brains, livers, and testicles
-- Partially atrophied livers
-- Damaged immune systems
Currently, the ONLY way to ensure you're not consuming genetically modified foods from a grocery store is to purchase only USDA certified organic foods. Sad, isn't it! :(
Not everyone can afford certified organic foods, so what's a person to do?
Here's what we do:
If I buy organic, I look for sales at smaller grocery stores & I also purchase from warehouse stores like Costco, where organic prices are very affordable.
We don't buy all organic, but there are certain foods I do everything I can to purchase USDA certified organic. Corn (& popcorn), soy (which we rarely consume), rice, dairy (cows are most often given GMO feed), eggs, & now potatoes - (or foods that contain any of these ingredients).
I buy as many organic foods as I can afford - such as apples, celery, & other produce -, which have high levels of pesticides & chemicals on them. However, we don't have an endless wallet. We can't afford to go 100% organic, just as most people can't.
IF we're unable to purchase organic, then we wash - wash - wash!
(A good way to do this is to soak your produce in a solution of water & vinegar - water & food grade hydrogen peroxide - or water & Dr. Bonner's liquid Castile soap. Just add a little bit of either to a big bowl or sink full of water, let sit for a few minutes, & rinse. This also helps remove that waxy residue & gets little bugs out of the hard to reach areas in greens.)
However, this option still doesn't fix the problem of GMO foods. Reading labels & looking for the "GMO free" stuff helps at least somewhat. But unless you're buying 100% organic, chances are, you're still consuming genetically modified products.
Click HERE to take a look at Food-Safe.Org - a resource for how to identify GMO foods/products & be food safe!
Best Option -
Go for locally grown/raised produce, meats, dairy, honey, etc... (organic if possible) - Talk to the farmers. Get to know them. Be familiar with them. What do they grow & how do they grow it? What do they feed their animals? How they raise their animals? How do they take care of their crops? Don't be afraid to ask. You have the right to know.
NOTE: Organic doesn't mean everything!
Organic foods contain FEWER pesticides. So just because you purchase organic foods doesn't mean you're getting a 100% pure & safe product. It's just safer & less contaminated in general than conventional foods. Here's a wonderful post on the differences between organic/conventional foods:

Monsanto's official website (monsanto dot com) - does a great job of painting a beautiful picture. Don't let it fool you! I decided in the beginning of my own research, that I would check out their website & give them a fair chance. As I read between the lines, the subtle underlying words used in their so called "messages of hope" gave me the heebies geebies. I could honestly feel the promptings of the spirit telling me not to give into the deceiving lures.
If you'll do the research (& it doesn't take much in this case), you will find that this corporation is a PERFECT example of what John A. Widtsoe was talking about in the Word of Wisdom book over 60 years ago when it comes to conspiring men. Just the word MONSANTO gives me that dark gut sickness inside. But heck, don't take my word for it!
