This is my customized version of 'Make Your Own Ketchup' from the book "Clean Eating"...
1 can tomato paste (6oz.)
1/2 c. water
2 T. coconut palm sugar, (or sucanat, honey, Xagave, etc... You pick!)
1/2+ tsp. salt (I use pink Himalayan, & I added more than 1/2 tsp.)
1/4+ tsp. cumin (I like a little more of this stuff. YUM!)
1/4+ tsp. dry mustard
1/4 tsp. cinnamon
1/8 tsp. cloves
4 Tb. raw unfiltered apple cider vinegar (I use Bragg's)
Mix well (using a hand held blender will give it a smoother consistency) & store in fridge!
*The original recipe calls for 2 Tb. vinegar, but it was way too sweet for my taste. So I added 2 more Tablespoons plus a little xtra salt, & it was MUCH better. Play with it & adjust it to your preferences!
*I also think the clove taste was a little strong, so I may reduce it just a teeeeeeny tiny bit next time.
*The original recipe also calls for 1/4 c. water. This makes a SUPER thick ketchup. So I doubled the amount to 1/2 c. & liked the consistency much better.
If you prefer squeezing to using a spoon, you can refill a store bought ketchup bottle by using a funnel to pour your homemade ketchup into the bottle.
***To make a dry mix for future use, just quadruple (or more!) the dry ingredients & mix well. I would octuple mine & make 8 times the amount - (Is octuple a word???)
Then all you'll have to do when you need some is combine approx. 7 1/2 teaspoons of dry mix (or 2 Tb. + 1 1/2 tsp.) with tomato paste, water, & vinegar.
