Homemade instant oatmeal packets are much more filling, & you know what's in them.
Get your kids to help! Assembly line style makes this way fast. Just line up your little baggies & ingredients, & scoop one ingredient at a time till you're done in all the baggies... Then move on to the next ingredient. It takes just minutes to make 30 or 40 packets!
AFTER you've gotten all your basic flavor bags made, go back through & add your favorite flavors to them. Variations are listed below the basic recipe:
ORGANIZING YOUR PACKETS (without having to label every single bag)... put all the bags of each different flavor in a plastic shoe box (or other container) & label just the box. This way, you'll know which is which just by looking at the container.

Instant Oatmeal Packet Basic Recipe - & Varieties: (Per ONE Packet)
Mix the following in snack or sandwich baggies or small mason jars to make individual oatmeal packets:
¼ c. powdered oats (reg. oats lightly powdered in blender)
1 T. powdered milk (I like brands without all the weird extra ingredients)
1 T. sweetener (I use coconut palm sugar, or sometimes sucanat, xylitol, etc...)
A pinch of un-refined sea salt (I use Himalayan)
***If you use a crystalized or powdered (dry) sweetener, you can add it directly to the little packets. If you use a wet sweetener (like maple, agave, etc.), then you'll want to add it after you've mixed it with hot water or milk & you're about to eat it.
Add a little hot water (or milk of choice) & let it sit for a minute or 2. Stir well, & you're done!
Sometimes, I also add a little bit of real cream or real butter. Yum!
VARIATIONS - (Adjust to your own taste... Or your kids own taste!)
Don't forget to double or triple the flavor ingredients, depending on how many "packets" you put in each bag!
Apple-Cinnamon - To each packet, add 1 Tbsp. sweetener, 1/4 tsp. cinnamon, and 2 Tbsp. chopped dried apples.
Apple Pie - To each packet, add ¼ tsp. apple pie spice & a little extra sweetener
Brown Sugar/Cinnamon - To each packet, add 1 Tbsp. sweetener & 1/4 tsp. cinnamon
Raisins & Brown Sugar - To each packet, add 1 Tbsp. sweetener and 1 Tbsp. raisins.

Honey Nut - To each packet, add 1 Tbsp. dehydrated honey & 1 T. chopped pecans/almonds (Look for brands without all the junk! You just want plain honey powder only - Or make your own)
Fruit & Cream - To each packet, add 2 Tbsp. dried fruit. When mixing up, add a little bit of cream.
Maple & Brown Sugar - To each packet add powdered/dehydrated maple syrup & extra sweetener
Maple Pecan - To each packet add powdered/dehydrated maple flavoring & chopped pecans... OR add pecans to bags & just add real 100% grade B maple syrup after it's mixed with hot water.
Pumpkin Pie - To each packet add ¼ tsp. pumpkin pie spice & a little extra sweetener
***Kids may enjoy adding naturally sweetened carob or dark chocolate chips also! :)
